Editing Addons in PERFLIGHT

PERFLIGHT gives you full control over how your addons are displayed and organized. Taking a few minutes to edit your addon details - especially the Source field - will pay off as we add new features that leverage this data.

Why Edit Your Addons?

When PERFLIGHT scans your libraries, it pulls information from each addon's manifest file. But manifest data isn't always complete or user-friendly. You might see cryptic developer names, missing categories, or placeholder images. Editing lets you clean this up and organize your collection the way you want.

The Source field is particularly important. We're building features that will connect your addon sources (like Orbx, iniBuilds, Flightsim.to, PMDG, etc.) to your configured service apps. This means in the future, you'll be able to check for updates, view documentation, or jump to the store page for any addon directly from PERFLIGHT. Setting the source now means you'll be ready when these features arrive.

How to Edit an Addon

When viewing your addons in “Card Layout” mode, click the Details button. This opens the addon editor where you can modify several fields.

Editable Fields

Display Name - Override the addon's display name with something more recognizable. Useful when the manifest contains technical names or version numbers you'd rather not see. Your custom name appears everywhere in PERFLIGHT while the original manifest name is preserved in the background.

Category - Assign or change the addon's category (Aircraft, Scenery, Livery, Plugin, etc.). Proper categorization helps with filtering and keeps your library organized. Some addons come with incorrect or missing categories - this is your chance to fix that.

ICAO Code - For scenery addons, you can specify the airport's ICAO code (like KJFK, EGLL, or YSSY). This must be 3-4 uppercase letters. ICAO codes enable location-based features and help identify airports at a glance. If you imported from MSFS Addon Linker, some scenery may already have location data populated.

Developer and Publisher - These fields let you record who created the addon and who distributes it. Helpful for keeping track of your collection and for future filtering options. The PERF page allows you to group your addons by Developer!

Source Select where you purchased or downloaded the addon from. Choose from common marketplaces like the MSFS Marketplace, Orbx, iniBuilds, Flightsim.to, SimMarket, PMDG, Fenix, Contrail, or select "Other" to enter a custom source. As mentioned above, this field will become increasingly valuable as we roll out source integration features.

Managing Images

PERFLIGHT displays thumbnail and background images for each addon. By default, these come from the addon's manifest or show a category-based PLACEHOLDER if none exists. If we were able to automagically detect placeholder images, we would remove them for you! But unfortunately that job falls to you during cleanup.

Removing Images If an addon has a default image you don't like (or a placeholder you want to replace), you can remove it using the delete option in the image section of the editor. This clears the current image and shows the category fallback instead.

Uploading Custom Images You can upload your own images to personalize your addon cards. Click the upload area or drag and drop an image file. Supported formats are JPG, PNG, and WebP, with a maximum size of 10MB. This is great for addons with missing artwork or when you want a specific screenshot to represent the addon.

Adding Addons to Sets

Next to the Details or Edit buttons, you can also manage which “Sets” and addon belongs to. Sets are named groups of addons that you can activate or deactivate together - perfect for organizing addons by flight type, region, or any grouping that makes sense to you.

For example, you might create Sets like Hawaii, Airliners or Euro Airports. When you activate a Set, all its addons are enabled. When you deactivate it, they're disabled. An addon can belong to multiple Sets, giving you flexible control over your addon configuration.

You can add an addon to Sets directly from the edit modal, or manage Sets from the Sets drawer in the main toolbar.

Tips for Organizing Your Library

  • Start with your most-used addons and work outward

  • Use consistent naming conventions (e.g., "PMDG 777-300ER" rather than "pmdg-777")

  • Set the Source for all paid addons first - these are the ones you'll most likely want to track updates for

  • Add ICAO codes to your airport scenery to prepare for the upcoming map view feature

  • Replace placeholder images on your favorite addons to make your library feel more polished

  • Create Sets for your common flight scenarios to speed up your pre-flight addon setup
